Std GDB sti rims are 53 offset. I also have a set of 17 x 7.5 with 47 (or 45) offset which are fine

My Kw's lasted 8 years before they started to leak
The MCA reds are fine after 2 yeays
The MCA blues I have on the bug are 2 years old and are squeaking/knocking but both can be rebuilt/serviced (back to supplier)

In Aus you can do a PPSR search to see if the car has a clear title
New h/gaskets/thermostat/pump...has it been overheated....get a compression test done

You dont say where in Melb you are but Gotitrex in Sunshine will give you some no Bull5h17 advice on the options available.
That would be my first point of call even if I had to tow the car there.

Got the 04 with Famous ( modded with 17k agreed and 5000klm annual limit ) for $620 and the 02 with Enthusiast ( modded with 18k agreed value)for $960.
