GC8 turbo intake pipe

Postby Dr.Nick » Wed Aug 16, 2017 9:24 pm

Hi Everybody,

My GC8 is stuttering under full throttle, I suspect it has to do with the crack in the intake pipe so I am looking to replace the pipe. I have a few of options, AVO Silicon Intake Pipe WRX/STi MY99-00 (http://www.tuspeed.com/avo-silicon-inta ... -p-61.html), Boosted Performance Parts Silicone Inlet (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222598658018) or PSR (http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/psr-si ... ack-2008-2). All are silicone and both AVO and Boosted are reinforced where PSR doesnt mention anything. I have never heard of any of the brands. Has anyone used boosted performance parts before? If so, do I need to worry about the pipe collapsing (standard TD04 Turbo) and what was fitment like? If you have any experience with either brand I would like to hear from you

Thanks

Get the avo. Goes all the way to the airbox. At least my gd one does, and that gc8 one looks similar in length.

I have the AVO silicone pipe and fits nicely and good quality. I think the performance gains were so minimal I didn't feel any improvement after it was fitted and retune but you'll notice more induction noise.

Thanks guys, its not a performance gain that im looking for. Its a replacement because the pipe I have now is cracked and the car is not running well. I was curious about quality of both brands, seeing has AVO is $350, PSR is $250 and Boosted is $150. Did you run into any fitment issues where you had to modify the pipe?

I had a generic pipe on my old gc8 as the turbo end was all squishy and broken. Yea, you won't get any gains unless you get a bigger turbo, this is primarily a repair modification and sets you up for future potential if you did want to upgrade, but anyway, the gd doesn't need modding, but the gc8 needed the fuel rail bracket next to the bov fitting to be trimmed and cut. Some very careful time with a dremel will sort you out. I did my gc8 without taking the manifold off. Otherwise the only other potential trimming is just the length of the pipe to get it to fit to the spot you need.

Hey guys, this is the crack I was talking about in my post. Do you think it is large enough to cause stuttering / hesitation when i put my foot down? Its after the MAF sensor so it will be letting in air which hasn't been calibrated from the MAF but is it large enough to make a difference? Its my first turbo car so its still a learning process

What is price of OEM pipe since you are not looking for performance gain? And you know it should be a perfect fit.

one reason for after market is the manifold doesn't have to come off
