What build would I need to achieve 200- 210 kw at the wheels???

Postby badboy » Thu Nov 23, 2017 6:31 pm

Hi all, recently found this forum lots of good threads,
I am from Queensland and have recently purchased a 2005 wrx, it is completely untouched except for a cold air intake and an exhaust although not sure on what brands both are. I want to achieve around 200-210 kw at the wheels! I know that the 5 - Speed transmission is not that strong for high power anyway. I also do not daily this it is a weekend car but i do thrash it on the weekends. Low end power and torque are my preference. Does anyone know a build list that could help me acheive this sort of power?

Thanks :-)

The 5 speed can actually handle upwards of 200kw fine, it just needs mechanical sympathy. I'd say 80% of 5 speed failures are limiter bashing launches and snapping 2nd (then having to pull over and retrieve the remains of 2nd gear off the road)

Anyways;

You have the exhaust - confirm this is a full 3" turbo back, you need to let the car breathe.
Cold air is fine provided it's a half decent system.

If you will be happy with ~200/210KW

You will need;

- VF34 turbo (otherwise for 1/3 of the price a used VF35 is a great upgrade from the TD04, very responsive and quick spool)
- Silicone turbo inlet (Pro Speed Racing or Perrin)
- Walbro 255
- Injectors - try find some second hand STI "pinks" they go cheap and will support 280 odd HP
- STI top mount (of if the budget allows - Process West)

Retune to suit.

That will see you around your 200/210kw goal on a safe tune.

Would also budget for a new clutch in there. Exedy oem is the go for a standard 5 speed box.

However, there is the other option if you do foresee the need for more power, stronger gearbox and a better platform to mod on...

Sell the WRX and find a low km bug or peanut STI

That will give you 200kw with an exhaust, intake, fuel pump and a retune.

Good luck :)

Not much off the top of my head.

Like I mentioned above, just need to confirm the exhaust is a full 3" turbo back - try find a brand on the muffler if you can?
Also a pic of the cold air intake and it should be easily identified.
