Torque Settings for Front brake caliper 2011 STi

Postby isamson » Fri Feb 02, 2018 12:40 pm

Hi everyone. Does anyone know the torque settings for the front brake caliper for an 2011 imprezza STI. ? Factory manual says 114.3 ft lb but I've stripped the threads trying to torque this up to this setting.!!

I've also got a factory workshop manual, but for the 2004, it has differences based upon wheel size. It's pretty insane, the 17" is listed as 114.3, but every size below is only 59 ft lb.

From the little I've read on the net, the Subaru caliper bolts have been known to seize up due to the heat. Advisable to use anti seize copper grease when you bolt them in. Doesn't really solve your problem of getting the out in the first place. Maybe try soaking them with penetrating oil WD40 etc ?
Note also that you can change the pads without removing the calipers. Just remove the 2 pins that hold the pads to the calipers to slide the pads out.

Yeah, I'm aware of all that, I also needed to take the rotors off to get machined previously.
This time I need them off for installation of extended wheel studs..
I'll keep trying though.

I haven't looked at the torque settings but I think you may be getting confused with the wheel stud pitch which is 114.3mm for STi's. :?

Found this elsewhere:

Those of you with STis, DO NOT torque to 114.3!!!!

It was the wrong figure inserted in the translation of the manual, 114.3 is for the rims...

Some people have apparently snapped bolts trying to get to 114

Proper torque is 80 ft/lb. on the caliper bolts.

Thanks for the clarification there. But even 114 for the wheels! Try and be the person with just the basic car tools trying to remove that.

Yeah I reckon that is incorrect for the wheels and is more about the stud spacing in mm.
