The daily driver WRX tyre thread.

Hopefully this will be the difinitive thread on tyres for daily driven WRX's.... so here's some simple rules to try and keep in mind.

The tyres are for daily driven WRX's. No track tyres
Try and include the $$$'s and size's you have been quoted and where.
Pic's and your thoughts/comments on the tyre would be great

So far here's the prices on tyres... (stock Tyres for GD rims - 215/45R17, GC8 16's will be a little cheaper.) These are the prices as quoted without visiting club supporters and without using a club members discount.

Great tyre so far. Very quiet but still performs very well. Were better after about 1,000km than when new.

For 17's it's hard to go past RE070.

I also have used Yoki's in the past and have been very impressed with them. Anyone know the rough price on the C-Drives? I think my budget is up to $300 a tyre.

Price: 205ea, fitted/balanced (215/45/17)
Quick review: Compared to the stock RE050As, slightly less grip in the dry. Better in the wet. Noisier.

Nick (niwTTwin) recently fitted 225 width tyres on standarD rims to his MY05. He has experienced no adverse issues in fitting the wider tyres (no rubbing ect)

I have noticed that in most instances, club members repLace with the standard width of 215's.

Are there any reasons against using the 225 width tyres??

The rim will "roll" more inside the tyre andversly affecting steering/handling.

Speedo will also be out by a touch (well may be closer depending on if it was out with stock tyres).
And yeah, as Zol illuded to, 225 is on the upper limits of width on a 7" wide rim.
Easy fix to 'jammers problem' (i realise you dont actually have that problem mate) is to get a tyre with a stiff sidewalll - ie RE070!

Size: 215/45/17

Pros: Awesome tyre, plenty of grip in wet and dry, limits the understeer.

No matter how stiff the side wall is Cam, it still won't be as stiff as the recommended width tyre. Hmmm... so many options, so little money.

Toyo R1R's. I have had them fitted and so far so good. The grip seems very high but I fear that the noise may have increased...hard to tell...The cabin noise is not so much louder but more noticable as there is a harmonic to them. Not sure if this will dissapear. Basicaly at the minute it sounds like I am on a freeway with a truck coming up from behind....only it sounds like this when not on the freeway . Noise starts a low speed but dissapears around 120ish but I have not had to turn up the radio and I will note that I have a stock exhaust so any noise change is noticable
Anyways they were $270 a corner (down from $370 apparently) so can't realy complain hard. May not be great for a daily driver but the slightly more than weekend warrior will have a ball.

AGE. Going on the prices you have there if you end up likeing the SportMaxx's go and see Ray little cheaper

One reason against a wider tyre on the standard rim is there can be a tendancy to tram track (follow lengthwise ridges) on the road. Kev.
