Machining Slotted Rotors - who do you use?

Postby sacar-1 » Fri Jul 22, 2016 5:30 pm

As stated
Supposed to be a bit tricky unless you use a light feed as the tool can skip across the slots.
Got a set of Dba 4000's that I think have uneven pad deposits on them and I cant get to work properly.
Even if I dont use them for track days I'd like to save them for the Hatch.
Anyone had good/bad experiances?

I had my DBA4000 slotteds machined & stoned recently (and have had numerous previous sets done also) because of juddering from uneven pad deposits during my last track day.
I get them done via my mechanic in Mulgrave....admittedly he sends them locally to a specialist who has the appropriate tooling/equipment. I get charged $30-35 per rotor.
Despite obviously losing a smidgen of rotor thickness in the machining process, it fixes the problem every time for me & allows you to do another bed-in procedure (if using for the track) in order to lay a fresh even pad coating...

As long as the rotor thickness is not approaching minimum thickness, I think it's worth the $$ to machine them, rather than toss them out.

Exactly, at $400+ a pair I really want to get a little more than 500kms and 1 unsuccessful track day and out of them.

Update,

Had them done at ABS Ringwood.
Guy seemed to know what he was doing and only took 0.4 - 0.5 mm off them.
$35 each.

Maybe a silly question, but cant he rotors be machined whilst still on the car, or is better to have them removed?:

You can have them machined on the car at some places or mobile mechanic but it is dearer than to remove the discs.
