03 STI - HALTECH Pro Platinum ECU - 24psi only 247kw atw

Postby MrSuey » Wed Apr 15, 2015 11:02 am

Hi guys,
Just got my car back from Powertune at Wetherill Park for my 03 STI
Here is a rough list of the set up:
GT35R or GT30R bolt on turbo (have to confirm, the code on the plate can not be found on google)
ARP head studs
Cosworth head gaskets
CP forged pistons
1000 injectors
Internal wastegate
Stock cams
ACL race bearing kit
On standard ECU 16psi makes 205atwkw 600nm torq
On Haltech new ECU with Windband controller 24psi only made 247atwkw and only 425nm torq

Question is, regardless of the turbo: has this been tuned right? has it been done by an amateur?
Or does the set up only make that much power with stock cams etc?

I am a bit concerned about the increase of only 40kw with a new $2k ECU.

Any opinions on this?

Thanks

you won't make anymore power with a $2k ecu

And I thought that was the latest version and could make big power. Are you speaking of 4k+?

I would assume they tuned it to be on the safe side. They said if it was pushed for more power it will start to cause problems.

Where those values gained from the same dyno? the standard torque value is higher than standard, and looks more like a tractive effort value (N not N.m) than a torque value.

What intercooler are you running? top mount or front mount?

Top mount is going to be fairly restrictive of power on 98

Stock Ecu will make 300 kW, waste of coin upgrading.

Power does seem low for that Boost and Turbo.. but the difference in the dynos could make the gap seem a lot worse.

Stock heads will be restrictive, but i doubt that restrictive?

Its too late now i cant give it back. It does respond better now, I can definately feel a big difference. But I mean in the long run if I need to add anymore aftermarket mods the new ecu will help wouldnt it

Post up the map file if you like.

You cant compare the results from two different dynos in two different shops on different days, there are just to many variables involved, even the amount of tension in the tie-downs used, the tyre pressures and wheel alignment will all have an effect on the final result.

My wheel alignment is a little off just havent got time.
Bottom line is, is the new ecu really worth it in the long run?
