Increasing boost only?

Postby azreal » Fri Apr 17, 2015 10:17 am

hi all..

been out of a wrx for 6yrs and have forgotten the basics of tuning.

am picking up a new golf R next month and am looking into mods already.

a piggyback is available which increases boost 5psi from the stock of 17psi. No other changes to parameters.

seller/"tuner" say the ecu will compensate but adding more fuel.

turbo efficiency aside, my concern is about egt and afr leaning out.

QN: is that the seller/"tuner" says true? will increasing boost alone via this piggyback with no other mods be an issue?

thanks,

rich

Hard to say, if its a piggy back package i imagine would be fine, but unsure how the Golf ECU works?

Really a question for the golf/vw forums mate.

You're going to miss the reliability of the Subarus.. Most who go over to the dark side are back in a Subaru with in 12 months or so.. not surprised the Golf forum " aren't much of a technical bunch" ...

Golfs are already hand grenades as it is. I wouldn't do a piggyback anything, full tunable ecu with wideband o2 or forget it.

I was going to say a lot on why I'd never buy a VW, but bugger it, we'll be here when you come back and get sick of a girly hand grenade car. :p

My last car was a GTi. Great car for three years then all the issues start. Never get one again. Hope my wrx is a better car. Love it so far.

I'd ask on the nrma/racq/ tow truck forums about vw's....
Good luck when it goes wrong.
They could be such nice cars if they weren't so unreliable and costly.

I don't believe anyone 'piggybacks' anymore. U can re-flash. There are plenty of packages as well... Not sure what turbo the Golf R uses, but if not the Borg Warner turbo from the Audi s3, that would be my first upgrade (with flash). Just need to pick up the turbo with manafold n it bolts on (upg exhaust while at it). Good for about 200-220kw @ wheels. I looked into it cauz I considered a gti before getting 2015 wrx
