Help with cluster removal WRX GC8

Postby Kevin.Averill » Mon Jul 06, 2015 4:16 pm

Hello all,
Im hoping someone on here will be able and willing to help me with an issue I'm having after removing the cluster from my WRX GC8. I have a racepak dash in the car run from a haltech ps1000 ECU so the only reading i was using on the cluster was fuel level. I will be getting this through the racepak dash so i decided to remove the cluster. Since removing the dash the battery is not charging, I believe this is because the dash light completes the circuit.

So here are my questions:

Does anyone know what cable('s) these are in the loom?
Does anyone have a pinout drawing for a GC8 cluster ?

Thanks, Kevin

could you find the wires by checking the colours at the alternator then bell them out with a multimeter

Thank you Ryan,
As you can tell i am a novice when it comes to auto electrics. I have found the two wire inside the cabin and have removed them from the plug/harness.

My question now is: What do i do with them ? Does the system work on resistance ? Can i just wire them to a light or globe ?

Cheers,
Kevin

Not sure if you found an answer for this, but check out the following website:

It sounds like you either need a lamp or a replacement resistor on the field wire. I can't recommend a resistor value, but you could start with around 100 ohm and go down from there. Note that the resistor may (will?) get hot, especially as you reduce the resistance. Go down to JayCar with a few dollars.....

You could go with with a T10 wedge or T5 socket & have your choice of lamp color.
Have a look at the URL below

Something interesting to note.... when I pulled out the cluster on my GC8, the interior light stopped working. That may be another circuit the cluster completes...

LED's don't work properly as an alternator light, as current needs to be able to flow in both directions. You need to use a standard bulb if you want an indicator light and the field function to work. You can also directly wire the Field to the ignition switch, you just don't have the tell tale.
