Jono's 07 Sti

Postby jonoe » Mon Aug 31, 2015 10:17 pm

After many years of good service it was time for the old my98 to go to a new home.

After a fair bit of searching, and scouring car sales for the last few months to no avail, I picked up an 07 Sti last weekend, and could not be happier!

Anyway here us a couple of quick pics I took after giving it a wash today.

Some of you may recognise it as lou's old car.

It still needs a good detail, which I will do once the weather gets better.

Cheers guys! Taken it for a couple of runs up the hills now, and the difference between the old gc and this is unbelievable, much more effortless with the 2.5. Anyway here is a couple of crapped phone pick after I gave the exterior a detail on the weekend

Fixed the badly faded bonnet scoop with some compound and polish, which I was sure needed to be painted. Stupidly I didn't take any before photos

Just need to finish doing the interior, and detail the engine bay

It's amazing what a quick seat clean does for the appearance of your interior

Cheers zee, it comes up alright with a good clean! I will do a couple of rounds this year, most likely Winton and subinats. I have still got a power issue that it has had since rexmas that I have to get sorted. I am doing the basics to try and sort it ie filters, plugs, tested the boost control solenoid etc. I seem to be running only 10psi and it pings up the top of the rev range occasionally. Might be time for a tune...

How did you get the engine looking so clean like that?
Was it like that when you got it? Or did you clean it up? How?

It was reasonably dirty when I got it. I pressure washed it, then used a good quality degreaser (DP Engine Degreaser) and agitated it with a brush, gave it a good rinse, and once dry dressed the hoses and plastics with Carpro P.E.R.L.

It was a little time consuming, but the end result was worth the effort

Update time!
As it turns out my suspicions about having a blocked cat were correct. I purchased a 3" Tbe from another club member, and when we removed the old exhaust I noticed the cat in the down pipe was completely melted. After fitting the new exhaust, my boost / power issues were solved instantly! I decided to do a couple of other minor things while I was at it, and piss that stupid and expensive ($160 trade price) in tank filter off and re locate the fuel filter to the engine bay.

Since the last update the car has:
- Hi tech 3" turbo back exhaust.
- Walbro 255lph fuel pump.
- Tuspeed 3port boost control solenoid.
- Cosworth hi flow panel filter.
- Intake resonator removed
- fuel filter removed from tank and relocated to engine bay.
Once I installed everything I took it down to got it Rex and had it tuned by Warwick. Man what a difference!

The car is making just shy of 180kw atw @14psi on an ultra conservative tune, in order to keep things safe.

Also some spatchcock decided to have an incredibly amateur attempt at stealing the car and busted the drivers door lock, scratched the door, damaged some trim and after still not getting in, decided to smash the passenger window [POUTING FACE] They were caught in the act after breaking the window and fled in another car... Luckily the local wrecker had everything I needed including a tinted window, and a door lock surround in the right colour.

Anyway, here is a couple of recent pictures...
New (to me) exhaust

All clean again!

I will upload some pictures of the melted cat, and fuel filter in engine bay when I remember to take them
