MY08 WRX build

Postby WRX-cessive » Mon Nov 28, 2016 7:58 pm

Hi all,

So I have owned my MY08 WRX for about 18 months now, I used to own a '92 Liberty RS Turbo, which I moded and had loads of fun with!! It was basically a Go Kart on steroids [ASTONISHED FACE] Big fan of Subaru's and don't think I'll own anything else again.

About 4-6 weeks ago, I started having issues with my car, just the day before a major service was due I buckled a rim on a big pothole. Two days after service, some suspect sensors (O2 + A/F) finally packed it in. Within a week I noticed a tiny crack in the plastic top tank of the radiator. I attempted to nurse the car till I could afford the new radiator, had just received the radiator and then blew the head gasket, among other things on the way home from the doctors. I knew I shouldn't have driven it, but the damage is now done...

I spent a week or so deciding what I was going to do, before I settled on my plan.

I hve purchased a Level 1 Long Block from subaruengines.com.au
I have purchased a TD06 18G with an adjustable spring set @ 1.0bar
I have purchased a 3" front and dump pipe (to go with my already installed 3" cat-back)
I have purchased a cold air intake
I have also purchased a metal BOV.

Over the next 14 days, I will document the build as parts arrive and engines get swapped. All the way till it's fired for the first time :)

In a few months when I have some spare money again, I will be doing the pump and injectors.

Would love to see anything over 220kwatw. 250kwatw would be the ultimate dream, but I don't want to go chasing it, if that makes sense.

Reason I went for the smaller turbo is, I drive to work every day. I would prefer a bit better low end response than high end power. At the end of the day, this is my daily car and I would like it be a comfortable drive to and from work.

Any positive input is welcome, really don't care for flogs who only listen to their own opinion and believe what they say is gospel.

The motor is in and the car is running!! Very happy with it, engine is much quieter than before (no lifter noise, etc.) Drives great!! Can feel there is a lot of power building up in that turbo, but am yet to take it to full boost.
Looking forward to the tune in early Jan, will be done by Horsepower Factory.
Then hopefully pump and injectors mid-late next year.
