Kaaaaay, maybe I should clarify, it's not a huge sound, so wind your window down, turn off your stereo and then drive the car hard with revs over 5500rpm and you'll hear it.
Don't expect the sound of a HKS SS BOV, it'll never be that. It's a very quiet BOV (KSHHH) sound.

Ok Fair enough, I get a loud enough whistle through my dump pipe as it is, once I get some more fuel I will hammer it, I only have a quarter of a tank left and have to drive 100km south :?

If anyone sees an 01 Hatch broken down on the Kwinana its me :?

I made this for my GC8 Sedan MY00, when i put it in it felt as if it hurt performance rather than gained. I couldn't get it to face straight down, more of an angle so i think that's why.

Flared the pipe with a heatgun and a funnel, fairly easy actually. Bought all the sheet from bunnings

Ok, I have noticed a difference!!!

Not in the noise, but yes throttle is more responsive but.........

drum roll..............

FUEL ECONOMY IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I did no other mod, it can only be this what did it. My fuel went from 360km city driving and 440km highway
to 440km city and 505km highway with 10L left!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am AMAZED!! and yes I drove it hard! none of this no boost crap, Highly recommended along with the upper engine cleaner to anyone!

It hurt on the performance because that bend is not a mandrel bend.
Internally, it's smooth on the outside, but the inside has a nasty sharp bend. Tyr get an exhaust shop to replicate the bend with a cheap mild steel mandrel bend.

Wouldn't it be better from an efficiency perspective to simply have a straight pipe from the inside of the air box straight out into the guard? Thus there's no bends at all!??

Try also using 2x 45 degree angles, to make the right angle... makes it a bit smoother....

I see.. but would sitting it on an angle like i did hurt performance as well? I couldn't get it to sit straight down unless i made a shorter one.

bah, too much work, is there just something we can buy?

1) if you have troubles with the one you make, you have to take it all apart again, rip it out and work out how the hell to fix it.

2) Would be much quicker just to buy something and shove it in there and woooooshka it works.

Let me know guys!

=)

Pyro, you can get an aftermarket u-pipe thingy, that joins the airbox inlet and the scoop thing that bolts to the front frame, but they aren't very free flowing...

Cheers,

Andrew

Hoo-freakin-ray.
I fainlly did it and its great.
Wasn't too hard, and I didnt break a single clip, guess it helps if its not too brittle.
The guide was all I needed, things seemed a little different due to it being a MY03, but didnt take of the plastic arch cover thing, just dettached all of it and folded it out of the way.
First test drive was uninspiring, good not great.
Then took drove it home from the parents house (bigger garage) and was thrilled as the BOV seemed to get louder.
I cant think of a reason for that to be the case, but dammit its true :)
Turbo spool and bov is great, not nearly as loud as an after market though, but nice for me and I can drive past a cop with little to no fear :D
Thanks for the guide!
Can't recommend this enough.
Together with the Rowville exhaust its even more fun to drive.
Infact I am going out NOW! :P

just did it on the STI, and wow! makes cool noises! sounds like a pod on an N/A car but you hear that whoosh and ccshh of the blow off, sweet as love it plus it was near 30c outside about to take it for a spin now its cooler and expect it to be alot louder, literally took 15mins and I guess the CAI still supplies fresh air to the inner gaurd, def going to get a APS in gaurd pod when funds allow it :D

Does it make the car a lot noiser? Is that why you will bother replacing it? (After all it's pretty had to tell it is missing).
