Tools needed for servcing my car?

Postby NA2293 » Sat May 28, 2011 6:01 pm

Hi all,

As i wasnt to service my car by myself (the mentioned tasks)*, what tools exactly do I need? I drive a 06MY WRX. Also, is it okay to wash the engine bay thouroughly with water from a high pressure tap?

*Engine Oil
Oil Filter
Washer
Air Filter
Transmission Fluid
Coolant
Differential Gear Oil
Brake Fluid
Clutch Fluid
Steering Fluid
Battery
Handbrake Adjustment

Thank you so much!!

Hay mate

have you serviced a car before

well there are two kinds of car services
major and minor

and stuff like Coolant,Transmission servicing is a separate job all together
for a quick minor service you only need engine oil,oil filter, air filter(if it needs one)and may be Spark plugs if the car needs them changed.

things like Spark plugs, air filter, coolant and transmission fluid isn't changed regularly only at a major Service.

The following would help:
- Ratchet/spanner set with 8-17mm size heads, an extender arm for those hard to reach spots.
- Jack stands and a hydraulic trolley jack (not the crappy standard one that comes with the car)
- Possibly ramps if your car isn't too low to get onto them
- Lots of rags
- Good protective gloves
- Trays for removing the old oil/fluid
- Replacement oil filter
- Replacement air filter (if required)
- Replacement windscreen wipers (if required)
- You may also need the special torx head to remove the transmission drain plug, I have an 06 wrx and mine had the normal spanner head but I bought the torx head just incase. Tuspeed has these if you want to buy one.
- One of those small hand pumps to fill oil into the rear diff (you can't pour the oil in)

I wouldnt wash the engine bay, just use a damp rag/compressed air gun to blow out all the crap.

I still get my car serviced at subaru and it's an 06, just looks better for the re sale. Might be in your interest to do the same but if not then have fun :P
