Are those prices fitted and is that for AD08(R)? The $300 quote i got from Stuckey is actually for the Z2* (Star Spec) and are fitted. The Star Spec warms up quicker and is supposedly grippier in dry and wet than the regular Z2. Its like the RS3 (Version 2) and AD08(R) which are evolutions and improved.

neptune11 wrote:$327 for 235/45/17 Yokohama
$399 for 245/40/18 Yokohama
And roughly around $232 for the RS 3s...

So price difference is huge, but also looking at the bigger
picture as in grip/ performance & wear??

Give Bob Jane in Highpoint a call... really good pricing with the above.

The difference between all those tyres will probably be within 0.5 second and being a street tyre they all start sliding about in 4-5 odd hard turns and they're not going to be providing the same performance at 10,000 kms that they did at 1,000 km.. that's the unfortunate nature of street tyres on racetracks. Could be a smarter idea to buy the cheaper RS3 and get maybe one season out of them, maybe more maybe less OR buy a second set of rims for the track, standard street tyres for your "wet" tyres and the RS-3 etc for the dry tyre.

Hey Bazza...
Yeh great idea... I'll be running a second set of rims for the track, they'll be 17"s
So not even sure if I was to run Brembo upgrades, they'll fit, or if can afford to go
that path??
Think I'd be happy with rotor upgrades to dba 4000, pmu club racer pads, and maybe
Subaru 4 pot caliper upgrades??

Exactly what I am planning on doing  but not planning on running r spec anytime soon so no need caliper change yet. I am going to just use my oem 17x8 rims for track , unsprung weight reduction would be nice with some lightweight wheels and calipers but can't justify to the Mrs yet. Same with coilovers although that would be easier to sneak past

Btw I got a quote from Ray at Tyrepower Reservoir and he quoted $295 for ad08r, $300 for z2, and $210 for rs3 ver. 2 all in 235/45/17.

RS3 looking like pretty good value, although I wonder from reviews I have read some say they take a while to come in on track (need more heat in them) compared to others, and if running short sessions we want to be able to gun it pretty much straight away. Can anyone confirm or reject that claim?

They take 3-4 corners to get warm and another 2 to overheat just like every other "performance" street tyre out there. In a single hot lap I can feel the performance dropping (RS3) and the characteristics changing... but the trick with these street tyres is understanding what they're going to do and driving to the tyre. Understand that if you lean on it too hard and push too hard they'll get oiley and slide so you want to stay on the limit there and then let them cool off for a lap after a hot lap or two.

Thanks Bazza! good post Sounds like its mainly compound related with these UHP. From what i have read on BMW forums and elsewhere in the US the hardcore track/auto x guys concur somewhat with what you said. In saying that every car is different, and tyre size, suspension etc etc will all result in subjective opinions. I think like you said buy whichever is cheaper and do a season on them and go from there.

Old news but only just found this. http://www.hankooktyre.com.au/compmed/N ... 0&KeyWord=

Tests done with 2015 WRX so its kinda relevant :)
Looks like i am going to be getting the RS3 especially when its hundreds cheaper than its rivals.

Only thing is the size i am after is XL (Extra Load), does that mean its got stronger sidewall?

Hey Zhi...

When I get round to it...I'll probably go with the Kuhmo KU 36...
I've sourced out Nitto NT05 $289
Hankook RS-3 $232
Yokohama AD08Rs $297
Dunlop DZSPZ2 $300
And the Kuhmo KU 36 $255

I don't think the kuhmo 36's are available any more. I believe they have replaced it with other one. But on a side note I was able to get some 36's for $170 per corner fitted and balanced last year at Bob Jane's in ringwood

Hey Shane I think Tyrepower had the RS3 at $210 in 235/45/17  But I now need 245/40/18 , just purchased a set of used STI BBS rims from Japan to replace my stock 17s.

Might have to get some prices for Nankangs as well, heard some good things about the NS2R but not enough to convince me yet. I think Andrew can hook us up with some, may have to check with him.

I have actually had KU36 on one of my previous cars but never managed to get it to the track to test it before it got stolen  The Kumhos looked good enough for me back then when compared against Falken Azenis and AD07. But now the Hankooks look like the best bang for buck ? hmmm

That's a great price for the 36s...
As far as I'm aware, I've not heard them of being replaced??
I may have to get other quotes then??

I see that some places are doing the buy 4 pay 3 tyre deal now. Jax tyres are doing dunlops and bridgestones, but not the RE11a or Z2* as far as I can see.

Hey guys,

New to the forum but thought i'd share a little. I just did my first track with my 99 STI at Wakefield with a set of Advan AD08R's and they were truly amazing. I have never been so blown away with a set of tyres before, they did everything I wanted them to. For anyone looking at getting these I can't recommend them enough.

Bob Jane T-Marts in Castle Hill did them for $200 p/wheel fitted (stock wheels, 205x50x16), aligned and filled with nitrogen. They are good blokes up there! :drunk:

Got the RS3 version 2 ( manufactured Dec 2014) in 245/40/18 from Widetread, not the best price at $280 each but i didn't want to run my oem tyres again at Winton so couldn't wait till eofy. These will be my "Dry" track tyres, if it's wet I will just run my oem, not going to be setting fast laps anyway.

Initial impression of these tyres on my 1 hr drive back through some twisties although stuck behind some peak hour traffic, they are not as noisy as I thought they would be, and I have got sharper turn in ( could be the alignment) and they grip preety good at 6-7tenths through sweepers. They definitely look racy, very square edge :) Taking them off tomorrow for a rest before giving it hell on May 23rd :)

Nice work Zhi...
They look awesome mate... :) Really sharp.
I'm sure whatever time's you pull at Winton, you'll be happy with corner grip round the bends. Let's just prey it's dry, so you can get a good run on them...
