FWIW that plastic light cover is gonna break before the camera comes loose - the adhesive is 3M permanent. I've used the same to keep the cover in place.... i.e. its glued in.

It needs some form of leash, cable tie as secondary restraint.
Whilst your statement may be true about strength of plastic and glue, it doesn't look it.

Thanks for the reply. Just to be clear...if I added a tether like a nylon rope to the passenger grab handle, would that fly? (A steel cable would be too heavy and is likely to wobble the camera around).

If it's at all borderline I'll ditch the idea and go with a windscreen suction cup mount which was ok at previous events.

Alpha Dog, the rope would be to long, the reason for the tether is to keep the camera controlled and minimise the amount that it can move around the cabin in case the primary mount fails, having it on a 1m long rope will not fulfill that requirement. I have a full cage in my car, with motorsport mounts for the cameras, and I still need to have them tethered. I use a 4mm cable tie around the case (as the case locking mechanism also needs to be secured) as they are relatively cheap to cut off each time I get the camera out, that I then connect to the cage by a 5mm cable tie.

Neptune11, if you get caught doing so, you can be excluded from the event.

If you are not sure if the mount is strong enough, hang a load of 1kg off of the mount, this is the equivalent of the mass of the camera and mount being exposed to a 5G load (relatively slow speed impact), I would say that that mount will fail.

I was told by the scrutineer at the last event i attended (PIARC) that all objects need to withstand 25g of force, which means suction cups are not allowed (even with a tether).
So i was told to remove my camera mount.

I have not been able to locate anything to back this up in the CAMS schedule though.

Make that a 5kg load then to test the mounts! No external mounts are allowed either.

They have obviously made those light fittings stronger then in the GC8's then! Mine used to fall out with only a light amount of load.

Yep Black has it right.
A constant force does not have same effect as an impact.
Also your hanging spuds are working in a vertical plane not horizontal ;-p
Though i do like your calculations.

Now several clubs are adding a note to scrutiny sticker or separate sticker to say approved camera.
Pit Out people will kick you back if it is not there.

Now if you are warned at scrutiny and/or briefing or Supplementary Regs about doing that, the CoC <waves > will not take it well.
