Tyre Classification Database

Postby KuRT12 » Sun Jul 10, 2016 1:19 pm

Hello All,

The motorsport team have been developing a tyre database/classification chart over the last couple of months and appears this will be a timely addition to our motorsport rules for the remainder of 2016, and going forward.

We believe this will remove any confusion with tyres and improve clarity for all competitors.

The tyre database will be effective from Round 6 onwards, and we encourage constructive feedback from members/competitors to tyres we may have omitted or incorrectly classified.

Tyres that are not classified, it is the responsibility of the competitor to seek clarification prior to the event.

Tyre database can be found here;

Hi

NSW use the UTQG system

STREET TYRES These are tyres marketed for use on public highways in the normal course of motoring. These tyres should have a UTQG tread wear rating of 120 or greater, where such a rating is available. Tyres marked for mud and snow use or categorised as Rally tyres shall not qualify as Street tyres.

R SPEC TYRES These tyres should have a UTQG tread wear rating of 119 or less, where such a rating is available.

I run Federal 595 RS RR 140 UTQG so classified as street, in Vic is a R Spec

Regards

Neil

So does that mean a slick / semi slick / grooved slick means instant "open" class classification?

Another common slick is the Kuhmo S700.

Hello Barry,

Yes at this stage that is the case.

Kuhmo S700 (and W700) now added to the database.

Thanks,
Kurt

Good idea. In my initial sprints, I referenced http://docs.cams.com.au/Manual/GeneralR ... 2016-1.pdf would be good to keep in sync so our club has a response to any CAMS listed tyres. Looks like we have most already.

Thanks Leon,

Aware of the production car tyre list in schedule E, but the list is not as in-depth as what we envision our list to become. It also does not specify if tyres are R spec, Street etc.. just states they are eligible to be used at all events.

If you were to interpret that list as a list of "R Spec" It also classifies some tyres strangely (e.g. the Hankook RS-3, Achilles 123S etc.).

However i will cross-reference now to make sure we can classify a few extra tyres we may have missed.

Yep, Schedule E is interesting, interpret it as saying, here is a list of non slicks you can run on a track. But those so called SemiSlicks that only have a thin groove going around the tyre. Cannot get rid of water, So I reckon they are slicks.
