Rotors pads and fluid upgrade for 2012 GR STI

Postby dekay » Fri Aug 17, 2012 10:50 am

Hey Adam,

Ive looked on your site but im not really sure what to go for the latest 2012 STI GR 5 door

I want to upgrade my STI rotors to two piece floating in the fronts and something better in the rear. Ive heard good things about DBA but im open to any other option.
I would preferably like slotted rotors to replace the stock discs. I’m after a stronger pad but good enough for daily street driving. In the process I should probably replace the fluid too, to a higher temp rating.

If im upgrading the parts on the STI brembos, should i change to steel braided lines as well?

Thoughts, recommendations appreciated

Cheers

get the DBA 5000 T3 slotted fronts if you want 2 peice rotors
fluid: motul 5.1 or RBF600 if you race your car

As for brake pads the standard brembo pads are good, otherwise if you want a good in betweener for racing, get the project mu club racer pads, apparently they're ok for street use too.

If you got a spare 170 bucks might as well get braided brake lines too

^^^^ I don't think I need to add anything - Mike's summed it up beautifully re the rotors.

Re the pads - for the street have a look at the Project Mu Type NS - they're an excellent sporty street pad, a good upgrade from stock and a great match to the DBA rotors.

Cheers, Adam

$125 actually, and quite possibly the best $125 I've ever spent ont he car. The pedal feel (especially when on track) is so much nicer.
I'm running Project MU two piece front rotors and can't talk them up enough - not cheap though!

yeah money doesnt concern me, i just work harder for it haha

only concern i have is compatability, struggling to find much aftermarket stuff that lists compatability for the newer 2011/2012 GR STIs

I had steel lines, Brembo GT BBK and 355x32 two piece rotors on my previous Audi and they felt awsome. The stock STI brakes are too soft for me :P
