Postby tinter » Fri Aug 19, 2005 6:01 pm

G'day all,
Next month (Sept 05) I will have put in my 30th year in window tinting and there shouldn't be a question I can't answer for you.

May I take this opportunity to welcome you here and I look forward to answering any queries you may have.
Regards,
Rob.

Hi RR,
I've just done one of the new TDI diesel Golfs so fortunately I now have the templates for it.
The model I did had the antenna for the radio in the rear and so it requires films specifically made for that type of car which are high end.
Cost is $396 gst inclusive for the 5 door. That is what I'd charge A VW dealer.
Time allowance...a good 3-4 hours on it. (half a day would be nice)
Regards,
Rob.

Hi John,
Depends a little on the model and year.
I presume it's a 3 series of some era hey? (I doubt it a new 645 convertible 2 door I just did. )
Cost will be $352.00 all up.
Regards,
Rob.

The waves are caused by the failure of the film's adhesive compounded with a poor film quality that could not take heat gun shrinking during the moulding of the film for curved glass.
You will find that these waves or distortions are on the top and bottom and possibly a big finger of delaminated film along the centre where the demister plug makes contact with the glass.
It would be covered under warranty if you are the original owner wherein you could get a total replacement for no charge if the tint mob a
care about you as a customer!

Otherwise if it was on there when you bought the Rex second hand,
you be up for $400 (@ club price) which includes the very hard yakka of removal.:(
This process can take at leat half a day because you can't put a blade into the rear screen otherwise it will take off the demister grid. So the film once steamed off off will have to have the adhesive worn off with methylated spirits and plenty of tissues.

Hi Adam,
I'd bet it is the superceded model right?
If so, same cost as the WRX. ...$352.00. Despite the Astra having more glass, it doesn't have to have trims taken off and the rear is not as complicated to install.

Hi Rob i have a MY99 WRX which already has tinted windows but the front passenger door tint is beggining to peel off from the bottom corner. Is it possible to have only this window re-tinted? What kind of price am i looking at? Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,
I can tell without even seeing it that it's not one of mine because of the way it's lifting and the way the installation was carried out.
The bod(s) who did the original install didn't bother to remove the trim because they are too eager to do as little work as possible and the film in now snagging on the underneath weather seal.
The film will need to be all replaced with the trim off and look for about $65 to make it again brand new. A while you wait job!

I've not had a request like that for some time but allow $250.00.
That way of doing it will make it look like those grey original STI's that come in with darker glass to the rear of the driver's head.

Lucky,
A 35% light transmission film is the limit and that will cost you $320.00 plus gst of $32.00 total $352.00 for club member.

Metallic tint

Postby jeffro186 » Tue Sep 13, 2005 2:31 pm

Hi Rob, can you us a quick run down on the use of metallic tint on the back screen of the MY05 wrx and what sort of interference it causes with the radio reception. If its only AM it doesn't matter too much.
Thanks for the info.

Hi Jeffro,
If you want to gauge a reaction of what type of interference you get in AM then try this.
Switch on the radio, tune it to say 3 AW 1278 and leave the ignition on.
Ideally if you have some "OO" mild steel wool, make a small wad of it and gently pass it over the inside of the heater/antenna grid at the top 60mm of the screen.
You will then hear the crackle or fuzz in the reception. FM is not affected!

To help eliminate (this presuming you want a fully metalised film), I can splice a cut between the 2 antenna radio bands and seperate the 2 pieces by enough to not make contact. I'm talking about the width of a hair and a very steady hand.

For Lucky....Seeing that your enquiry has come from this club's resource, I'll include you at a member price hoping that in time you will join with all of us

Regards,
Rob..
