Hey Guys and Girls
The guy who built the diff and installed it is saying it is not his problem and that it has been caused by drive line load.
But first all the facts around the issue
The vehicle is an immaculate genuine car with 169500kms on it, full service history, all ways been looked after well and is Auto.
At 167000 kms the trans was completely rebuilt @ a cost of $3700 due to a slight clunk when selecting between Reverse and Drive, then at 167400kms the diff was reconditioned including a brand new Viscous LSD at a total cost of $3888.00, following the diff being done there was still some slight noise on deceleration, it went back for the scheduled 800km oil change and check, then some not quite 2000kms later smoke was noticed coming from the rear of the car, upon inspection the rear diff had spewed oil out the breather and onto the exhaust.
The car was taken straight back to the diff specialist and the diff removed by the diff guy, upon inspection he said there was no claim as the problem has been cause buy excessive pressure in the drive train caused somewhere further back, and that it will cost another $3-4K to rectify.
Not being an expert on Subaru's I am really looking for some input to shed some light on first where I stand with this, second why has the problem occurred in the first place so I can avoid going through the same issue again.
One point of note is that on the invoice for the diff they quoted and fitted second hand WRX drive shaft stubs, I am at a loss as to why they would have needed to change these.
I look forward to your input
Regards
Jon

Update
The rear diff has been replace with a low km replacement 4.44
When driving the car it feels like the hand brake is on, I have checked the rear hubs, tail shaft drive shafts, brakes everything all are free, when driving it is laboured. You really have to push it to make it go, really does not feel right and the diff is getting real hot real quick
Some one help

^^^ sounds like wrong diff ratio. And at $4k I reckon you could have a brand new genuine Subaru unit for those sorts of dollars. Sounds like your diff bloke got the wrong unit - did you happen to keep the old diff?

It sounds to me like your "reco" auto is a secondhand unit and someones got NFI as to whats going on.

Think I agree with both bits of that. You would almost say the auto is wrong, and yes NFI.
