If anyone might be interested, I thought this was pretty cool. Unsure if its registerable if imported though..

I know of one which is road registered. Wen't and looked a S14a Silvia with a S15 front end in St Albans a few years back. Whilst I was there I noticed the guy had a lot of really nice Japanese Imported cars at his house.

Turns out the guy is good friends with the owner of Carizma Imports in Abbotsford and showed me his favorite car he keeps locked away which was a STi Forester which he enjoys driving the most. Mind you this guy had a lot of sportier sedans like the Silvia, various different model STi's ect.

You can sus out what can and can't be importes at RAWS or DOTAR on the net... My understanding is you can not import something that was sold here or the same as something that was sold here but called by a different name.. eg...Toyota "4runner" is the OZ equivalent to the JDM Toyota "Surf"... which was once legal to import until Toyota kicked up a huge stink back in early 2000s. It stopped the entire grey import industry for almost 2 years while the Gov decided what the new rules would be...Can't blame Toyota... Why is someone going to pay $40,000 or what ever a basic "4 Runner" cost when you could by a "Surf" with a bucket load of cool options as standard for $15,000...
There are some VERY cool cars in Japan that are not allowed in now."Evolution Pajero" springs to mind....Fantastic off roader BUT only allowed in as "event " car only...

Such a beautiful car! I can understand why it's not allowed, for the reasons outlined by Delivan though.

The reason the importing stopped was the car companies felt they needed "protection" otherwise their
manufacturing here would be in trouble and they would announce massive retrenchments prior to the coming election
blaming the retrenchments on the imports.

The big kids didnt want to share with the little kids. Heaven forbid the working class be
permitted to get ahead and compete in a monopolized industry.
Strange thing was most of the manufacturers didnt manufacture here ......

Fortunately though, this political intervention saved our car manufacturing industry
and made it the dynamic, thriving industry we see today.
