Howdy
So my missus is in the market for a Forester XT.
Going to look at one tomorrow.

As I have zero experience with Foresters is there anything I should be on the look out for problem wise?

Looks pretty good, Ive had 3 foresters and 1 STI and they all share the same platform. Look for cracked CV boots, steering rack boots, leaking gasket covers. None of which are big problems but good bargaining chips. Hopefully it has a log book apart from that do a thorough test drive and make sure it pulls smoothly through the rev range, no off noises etc. Part 1 of major service will be due soon which is a ~$700 job also something to be aware of and as a bargaining chip. I would also check moonroof operation and pour some water over it to make sure it doesnt leak. Cheers

I've got a MY00 GT and she's been a great old girl, she's done 215,000kms, and only "extra" work that she's cost me was a wheel bearing replacement in the 40,000kms I've owned it.....and now I've got a MY10 XT Premium ( as well ) ....really nice cars to drive and pretty bullet proof if looked after.....the later model cars are a more refined beast ( and bigger ) ..... If you can, get it checked by a good Subie specialist, if you're in Bayswater, you could take it to either Tony at URD in Knox, or Barry Crocker both on your side of town and damn good spanner men ( and top blokes too ) .
Cheers Ian
Team White ( Northern Subaru )
MY99 WRX
MY06 Spec B Liberty
MY01 Foz.....Silver !

When someone asks, "Where do I know you from?" I respond with, "Well...do you watch porn?"

Thanks for your input Ian!
It's great to get honest opinions from knowledgeable owners.

Didn't buy the foz in the carsales link but definitely still looking...
Most likely going with 05-06 XT luxury or premium now & it has to be manual (seems to be a lack of premiums on the market atm though)
Budget is 15k max

So far this weekend I have one from a private seller to look at...
