need some help..

It seems my gear box is struggling :(

Almost 3 out of 5 shifts under WOT into 3rd results in a lock out.. Just wont go in.

If I drop boost - no probs.

Normal driving - feels perfect.

Just going 2nd to 3rd under full attack does not go in most times. I just changed the gear box oil again to Motul plus some additive which is supposed to help but same problem.

This started happening about 5 months ago and slowly getting worse..

Suggestions?

Thanks
Rob

Do you have hd mounts and harder shift bushes?
When my shift linkage was worn it would hang up on the 2-3rd shift.

hmm,

I have done gear box mount plus engine mounts (used the upgraded STI brand - can't remember name). Broke the last set of them (probably from launching too much). replaced with same brand.

I have a short shifter in too.

Ohh and twin plate clutch (which my mechanic thinks might be causing some of the problem)

Is there anythign else I can upgrade/change to see if it will fix this problem?

thanks!!

uhhhhhh.......your gearbox?!

No seriously, perhaps it's time to start thinking about a PPG 5 speed straight cut box? They can handle oodles of power and make an awesome sound too.

Perhaps time to think about just buying a standard GT2 that works and goes right at full attack from factory..
No offence but your car is one headf@ck after another.

They're only a touch stronger and don't have oil pump and need to be rebuilt for around 3k every 20,000 kms. Dccd is the old open version.....

lol

Thanks for the advice..

I have been told a mech can buy stronger syncro's and at the same time re set my gear ratios to what ever I like.

This can be done for under 2-3k Sgd..

Any reaosn why I should not consider this?

I'm sure it will only last a year or so, but thats fine as far as what I'm prepared to pay.

Never heard of "stronger" syncros and don't know if they exist. He may have meant better syncros with fancier triple cones / whatever etc.

I'd just replace whatever you wear out - 6MT's are awesome boxes.

Stronger synchro's exist with some other makes, ie Nissan. But you don't tend to see them outside of Japan for some reason. I'm not sure if any better ones have been made for Subaru's.

spoke to that mechanic again and he said they will send off the gears and have them strengthed in the US. They say about 20% stronger.

However for my problem it's more about worn syncros and maybe some other worn parts.

We will open it up take a look and replace syncros and what ever else needs doing. :)

A guy here made 450kw with 31psi using a twist mount precision billet turbo. Mind you he has customised a lot more than you but you're missing out on a lot by not going twist, i thought you were considering it?

Sorry I may be getting confused.

Whats twist mount? (Is that the same as rotated and or offset turbo) lol not good with car talk these days haha

This is what I'm getting:

Image

I currently have the largest size GT35 in stock location, the only way up from here is to rotate it. I will run a 4" intake, and TRY to run as bigger dump pipe as possible (only up to the exhaust cut out) and then run usualy smaller exhaust to keep it quiet on street.

This turbo is the FP HTA GT3586 with Tial V-band A/R 0.82. I'm expecting a small gain in spool increase (300-400rpm) and 700-1000rpm gain in peak power.

Should be in and done before end of the year if all goes well. Of course I will keep everyone up to date on the progress and results :)

Then I need new tyres and gear box to be done haha

Yes twist mount is the same as rotated or offset. Somewhere around 400kw would be achievable with that turbo I presume?

Yeah, I chose this one based on the results many of the guys achieved on this forum and evo forums too.

That picture is actually not the GT3586, it's the Gt3582 :)

Think I'll tune it for 1.9bar and see what it gets, then go from there..

The question I have - has anyone successfully installed a 4" dump pipe as it looks very tight with the steering and other RHD stuff in the way...

So in the end I went with a set of AD08's :)

They weigh less than the RE-11's, they are A- Symetrical (able to rotate left to right to aid excess camber) plus were $150 cheaper per tyre (and in stock too lol)

245x35x19 punk

Had to remove the rear spacers as it looks REAL tight back there.. will find out soon if it still rubs. From now is reduced to 7mm spacer and it too looks VERY tight.

Now just need to wait for that turbo..

Are you sure that turbo is not from a mining truck or maybe the now defunct space shuttle...surely it won't fit in the engine bay. lol.
Nice car man, if i'm ever in Sing again you gotta take me for a spin!
