Subaru quoted about $400 for a spare key for my 03 wrx. :o

Anybody had any experiences getting them done elsewhere?
A few dudes on rexnet were saying they got them cut and coded elsewhere for about $150 and the only difference they could see was that it didnt have the subaru logo on the back. One of the mentioned places was Mr Mint so I might give them a call on Wednesday, anybody else know any other places in Victoria worth trying... ?

I am having a similar experience with my key at the moment.
I dont need to replace the entire key, but I do need a new screw as the one that is currently in there is rounded.
I havent looked into a replacement as of yet, so Im using the key more and more. :chair: :chair: :chair:

Seems a bit steep on price but Im 100% sure Subaru would be more than willing to help out financial club members...

Yeah but I think what Es was really saying is the key the cheapest part and the coding is where the real cost comes in.
But nice spotting regardless.

Nah Subaru said that the coding is $60 and that the key is the expensive part. *shrug*

But all of the flea-bay ones I've seen come without the transponder inside.... and regardless I'm not sure i'd trust a flea-bay job enough to guinea pig it :P

Was really hoping for a 'one stop' alternative ;)

There are 3 parts to the key depending on year

One is the transponder (which you can code up if you have a Select Monitor 2 and cartridge (and pin code)
Two is the Remote
Three is the cut of the key

Ashwood Locksmiths cuts the keys for about $150 but without the remote

Went in to enquire about a key for my daughters BMW 318 and they quoted $295 ready to go.. thats a lot of $$ for a damn key...

Might have to give aftermarket a bit of a look at..

Yea speaking bout keys i might need to get another set done too. Cause atm ive only got the one key which has the remote on it. Might need to get a spare key done just in case with or without the automatic locking thing.

The key is the expensive part... hmmm interesting, I thought it would have been the transponder for sure.
Hope you can find a solution.

I rang Docklands last week and was quoted $330 for my 03wrx.

I also rang Mr minit in Northland and they could do it for around $150 minus the buttons.

I think i will get a second one from Subaru eventually. But i have other things to buy.

I just purchase a Sony Xplode head unit so i have USB and bluetooth. Ahhh it is good to listen to MP3s again.
