Phillip Island - Motorsport Round 4 Replacement

Postby ls0775 » Sun Oct 02, 2016 6:04 pm

Thanks everyone for the support after my little excursion. I'm fine, so that is the main thing. I'll assess the car another day and keep the club up to date on progress.

If anyone has active track footage, I'd appreciate a copy.

Leon.

Glad to know you're ok
Seen a few racecars end up in the same place at PI over the years.
Hope the car is fixable.

A video of me trying to get past a car, even backed off to create a gap to string together a good lap, but sometimes it doesn't work out. On my last lap in this video i was 1.1sec up before seeing the car in front, but by the time i finished the lap i was 1 sec down so i lost 2 secs somewhere! Haha.

Quick update on the car.

I've pulled all the damaged panels off. Front right rail took the primary impact. Right rear rail took a secondary impact. Looks (feels) less damaged with all the crumpled sheet metal out of the way. Shell, doors, pillars and roof appear ok. Here is a few pics - https://1drv.ms/a/s!AiS_8ZTVH7i1pZdz0hBsCI9AftYX9g

Next step is remove the engine and strip it, then get it on a frame machine and straightened. Target is round 1 next season.

Good to know the car is not too badly damaged Leon. These newer Subarus can take a hit, testament to the higher safety standards. Hope to see you back sooner than later :)

Doesn't look nearly as bad as the photos I saw from the day...
Glad that you are able to get repairs done...!!
Straightening out the chassis will be the biggest project...

Also Leon,

I've got some factory parts of my 2011 wrx that I'm not using, and be quite happy to help you out with...!
Air box & filter, amongst probably other parts??

Thanks for the offer. I'm building up the parts list I'll need and will share shortly. I had a CAI on so still have the OEM. The CAI is reusable with a new POD.

As everyone else has said Leon, nasty accident, but so glad to see that you walked away ok.....it wouldn't have been a pleasant few seconds for you at all nervous
Pleased to hear that you've pulled the damaged parts off, then looking to straighten the chassis & rebuild with the aim of joining us again for 2017....that's an awesome effort and we look forward to seeing you back out there
