MY13 WRX hatch subwoofer enclosure

Postby Andyjk » Thu Feb 22, 2018 5:46 am

Hi guys, recently got myself a WRX hatch and thought I'd go about making a slim sub enclosure to fit snuggly in over on the left hand side. Here's what I ended up with for my 10 inch sub.
Made of MDF and wood glue then carpeted. Reasonably happy with how it turned out. It's far from perfect but it'll do for the time being.

Interesting to hear how it sounds. Good to see you installed the breather hole. Does that have an internal tube attached ??

Hey mate, I hooked it up briefly to another car and I'm happy with how it sounded. Sub is 300WRMS and amp was 190WRMS I believe. I'm just waiting to purchase an amp that is a little better suited to this sub. The hole does have a tube attached, runs in about 15cm or so.

Custom job is sweet as man. Get it in the car with some more pics. :)

We have 4 x 12 inch sub boxes stacked up under the house as well as 2 x 1000wt amps I have been thinking about putting one in my 4x4 but they are soo big it has put me off. After seeing your DIY I might take to one of them with a jigsaw and make it fit somewhere where it wont be constantly in the way..I'll post picks if I do...Cheers for the idea..

Doesn't fit in a snuggly as I'd hoped to be honest. I'll probably end up scrapping it and making a fiberglass one. Oh well, it'll do for now!

Delivan, glad I could inspire you :-)

That's still cool. Functional enough. Something silly like just the addition of the carpet could have thrown it off too. At the very worst you have a template to base something else off. Well that's what I told myself after I sort of customised a fog light intake. I made a splash shield to protect the intake from water splash and just yesterday added some mesh to rock guard the hole, but ended up cutting too much from a corner. Ah well, the joys of custom work. :)

Haha yeah I suppose. I did rush the job as I decided half way through that a fiberglass one would be neater so just wanted to get it done. Oh well!

Measure twice, cut once? Nah, just eyeball it ;-)

Looks good for a first attempt. I would draw over the carpet edges and staples with black felt pen, that will help blend them in....

Yeah I'll attack it with a perm any marker. Got the amp installed and it sounds really good!

Nice mate!
Most importantly you're happy with the sound now it's matched your amp.
Personally I'd just grab some more felt /carpet & redo (you know where to hide the seams now)
