CHANGING DASH LIGHT COLOURS

Postby rexevos » Sun May 17, 2009 7:52 pm

hi guys..
just wondering has anyone attempted to change the dash light colour and the cluster colour?
i want to make my whole dash red instead of the green on my 05 wrx...

i was considering to go out and buy a sti cluster but if i can get the lgihts to change colour to either WHITE or RED it might be better and cheaper..

any help :D

It's pretty simple, you can either get silicon sleaves to fit over the T10 bulbs or get leds, in a few different colours. I saw red, green, blue, yellow and orange silicon sleaves today at Auto1. I bought the Narva Arctic Blue bulbs to see how they'll go, dont really like the GC8 green.

Just take your time taking out your speedometer, you should only need a phillips head screwdriver to get the job done.

to change all the bulbs or put the sleeves on behind the dash where the climate controll stuff is.....is everything just click and screw off?
and i heard behind the speedometer/cluster their is a green plastic piece so it comes out green and if u take it off it comes out white?
but im not 100% on that..

ill spend time on it when i get the car back form the shop

The speedo is easy, but the climate control stuff can be a little tricky. The speedo will use T10 wedge bulbs but Im not 100% on the bulbs for the climate control.

i pulled my dash out 2 change the globes the other week. They are T5 in the dash, and the climate control are all LED. So i didnt bother as the plastics are green and no matter wat u do it will never be the exact colour...

i have a MY05.

if u manage 2 do it,let me know wat u did coz i want red as well.

I put two multi-angle leds into the fuel and temp gauges, then the Narva arctic blue bulbs into the Klms/hr dial this afternoon. After taking forever to install a new head unit :hairpull:

The leds worked alot better than the Narva T10 bulbs.

hey Jadaz are the LEDs patchy? I did an LED conversion in my last car and i found there were darker and lighter spots, making the colour look patchy.

Jaycar DOES stock them, as a mate of mine did the same thing to his R32 Skyline and looked good :)

I'm guessing the stock blubs are normal blubs and not LEDs, so I'm going to need to use a resisitor as well.

I might have to give it ago.
It would be much easier with the pre-made T5 wedges!
On my VT i had to solder each LED and resistor!

Ive have just tried all this... with my 03 WRX. The blue t5 wide angled leds are the brightest but the needles are not very visable. Red comes up better but not as bright. Ive tried sleeves, leds and painted bulbs. In the end ive gone back to the green speedo etc with red for the ac and heater, and cigerette lighter and ignition. Im happy with that combo. i'll try put some pics up if you guys want ???
