Which Fuel

Postby wrexel » Sat Jul 21, 2007 10:53 am

Hi all,
I know this one has been done to death.
Have been a long term user of Optimax/V Power, but considering switching to Vortex (more convenient & cheaper). Anyone had bad experiences with this fuel and/or recomendations. Am planning a reflash with slight mods only and considering whether a fuel change will create any issues?

cheers

Steve

I always have and only will ever use BP Ultimate. No other fuel runs as well. For the 4c per litre you save with safeway/caltex fuel, over a 50 ltr fill, you will save $2. Its not worth it. Change to Ultimate!!!

A good read, I'll get it tuned on Shell & swap to BP or Caltex to be safe.

Cheers

I think you should back this up with some real facts, before shooting your mouth off. :wall:
My car is tuned on Caltex - Vortex 98 and Steve at AVO said it seemed to be fairly resistant to pinging compared to other fuels.
My knocklink and data logging backs this up as I have not seen an event on either, at this stage.

Same. Although put in Mobile yesterday when I went to fill up with v-power racing for the first time in a while and got slapped in the face seeing it was 33c/L more then normal unleaded. Normal unleaded 1.21, v-power racing was 1.54. Bloody ridiculous.

Hence why I didn't go for it.

I think the price hike came with the new name, it used to be 17c a litre more expensive over standard unleaded. bloody crooks

I never used to be worried about which fuel i used (made no discernible difference) that was until I have some performance enhancements done and tuned on Ultimate. Ever since that day, the car runs crap on anything but Ultimate.

Has anyone used United 98boost??

I heard its not bad...and its cheaper?

Ive only used synergy 8000 for the past 4 years on my rex. best fuel ever.
then followed by ultimate.

i think my urine is better than shell

i just made the switch from caltex vortex 98 to bp ultimate 98. have been using vortex 98 for a good 6 months or so exclusively. i can say it definitely feels more powerful, but this is only the first tank of bp i've put it. i didn't have any expectations, so i know it's not all in my head

Don't get it tuned on Shell if you plan to use other fuels! Tune it on BP or Vortex 98, then you'll be able to use Shell fuel safely.

Would be interesting to see how the consistancy is from station to station for certain brands. I've had the odd discussion with work mates, I'm def no expert, but we both wondered if you would get the exact same fuel from different stations. Some of them argued that it would ALL be different, the point being that, how the fuel is handled once it leaves the tanker it may deteriorate due to condensation, contamination etc.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what sort of tolerances they use for ratings?

I know that after the winton fun day a couple of weeks ago, the Ultimate i filled up with at the servo in Benalla was CRAP! Never had a bad batch of Ultimate till then. My mates that i was with had the same problems too. Im thinking it was just 95 octane badged as Ultimate...

I would expect that you would have to take into account the turn over of the petrol station. Obviously the less turnover the longer the fuel sits and the more chance the fuel has of having a reduced RON (as it degrades over time). Think this would be more of a problem with non-metro stations then ones in the CBD where lots more people use the higher grade. But I could be wrong lol :)

BP ultimate all the way....unless there is none in the area.....the reason is that its in front of my work place so just easiness of it.

Tried V power 98" it was okay....car seems to be more smoother but the car seem to drink more. prob coz my up-pipe was leaking....

Tried the Synergy8000 ....I dont really like it personally...
