The "Why am I not running full boost" thread

Postby Random Dude » Wed Nov 07, 2007 11:43 pm

This is a public service announcement!!! :smart:

I GOTS NO BOOST!!!

wastegate vaccum line

Jimmi wrote:So I replaced the T piece with a new one but in the
process i snapped the original vacume hoses as they were really brital,
with the hoses not reaching I simply replaced all the hoses from the
wastegate and boost solenoid with standard vacume line.

Thing is now my car doesn't feel like it pulls half as hard and the
rush of boost is no longer there, the car feels like its just pulls
like an NA car.

urban-guy wrote:hey guys i have a MY02 it has a cold air intake and

moment its only doing 5 to 10 psi does anyone have any idea what could
be causing this ? thanks

Serious Issues !! NO BOOST AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Subie97 wrote: I was accelerating normally working up to boost and
when the car hit boost it just felt like it cut off and the car hit a
wall, i lost all power .

The car felt very hesitatnt the rest of the way to work and whenever
the boost approached 0 on the boost gauge it was very reluctant and
shaky with it feeling like i was loosing power.

Any suggestions for boost problem

amer_wrx wrote:my car use to run a steady 14 psi at all times. and
then out of know where a few weeks back it just started running 10 psi
and doesn’t go over 10 psi? what may be the problem any one had any
similar issues?

low boost

only said 6 to 7 psi??

MY98 with low boost

Blue99 wrote:My 98 wrx had a manual boost controller tee'd in to the
wastegate actuator line and when I removed this and replaced the hose
it won't boost over 7psi.

LISTEN TO THE SMART PEOPLE!!!
:smart: :smart:

T-Rex wrote:It could also be running off wastegate pressure (7psi) because of a vacuum line coming off. so check all lines

T-Rex wrote:They are little black hoses about 5-6mm internal diameter (cant remember exactly) there should be a couple around the turbo, one goes to your inlet manifold. just look for any little hoses that might be off. Even the one that plugs into your BOV

stiturbo wrote:check to see if the wastegate actuator arm has not fallen off the waste gate hinge

Sickem555 wrote:Most likly u might have a leak some where. Usually the rubber hose from the accuator to the turbo is the main culprit. but doses not hurt to check them all.

Callahan wrote:Or perhaps if you are running a bleed type boost solenoid(like the oem one)then maybe it is not working at all or blocked(fairly common).
That would then only build boost to the wastegate spring pressure.
Could be around that 10 psi mark depending on gauge and size of exhaust spike etc.

amer_wrx wrote:the reason its runing such low boost because your prob missing a little olive looking thing that goes into the vacumn hose that runs of your wastegate. That should fix it.

Blue99 wrote:I checked my car and it was connected wrong and no restrictor.
I've now connected it up as tu suggested, I've got a hose between the compressor and wastegate actuator with a tee in the middle going to the boost solenoid, I've also installed the restrictor in the hose closest to the compressor and a hose from the boost solenoid to the inlet pipe.

hellowrx wrote:applies to 97-98model wrx.

*check to see if the vacume hose line on the bottom of the plastic bov has not snapped off*

This is what happened to my car, and I was running 7psi, not until TONY from urd helped me diagnose the problem!! It was hard to find as the bottom the bov is tucked away hard to see.

Also please note if you are making 20psi on a standard WRX with standard restrictor pill, you've probably put an STi one in there by mistake.

Go down to Subaru parts and get them to order you the correct one
