Ebay knock sensors - ok or not?

Postby Yeldz » Thu Jun 08, 2017 10:36 am

Has anybody used the cheap knock sensors on ebay?
Wondering if they do the job or is it just better to go with OEM.
The price difference is quite extreme.
(It's for an '02 STi)

Mate, how much do you have invested in your engine/car ? At $200 (just a figure) for a new knock sensor that would be reasonably expected to last 20,000 klms =.01 cents per klm. Is it worth trying to save a few dollars at the possible expense of your investment, knock could kill your engine.

Fair post mate.
You're absolutely right, no it's not worth the risk for the sake of saving some cash.
$200 at a guess is a dam good guess...
Appreciate the reply.

Cheers

Depends on the knock sensor. If it's a Bosch sensor from a reputable seller there is no issue.
The older I get the slower I drive.

Just add to this a few years back I installed my own TurboXS Knocklight. I purchased my Knocklight second hand and it did not come with the sensor.
What I did was order the same Bosch knock sensor that AVO were using. As it turns out it matched the part number that TXS used.

You can also still purchase a Bosch knock sensor from the TurboXS website for $99 US

BTW for $299 you can get the AVO Knocklink G4 Or the GIZZMO on eBay that is if you need after market knock detection which I think is an absolute must for any car driven on the track.
The older I get the slower I drive.
