Hi All,

Yesterday afternoon my car chucked up the CEL for some reason. I also noticed the cruise control light flashing also - have never seen this.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Or is it a trip to Docklands for a check up?

Nothing was changed on the car recently and I was driving very sedately. The only change made was that I was running Shell 98 rather than the normal Mobil 98 I usually run.

cruise light flashing just means the cruise is not available. If the engine light is on the cruise disables itself so at least you know its nothing to do with your cruise.

last time my engine light came on was after I used the upper engine cleaner and when I took it to my local shop was told a sensor was just moved. All was fixed easy but then again this was my experiance you might have a different issue

CEL + Cruise flash usually means emissions related CEL (maybe due to your dumppipe )

Cambs, I performed the mortal sin of doing a search AFTER I posted this and read the emissions thing. Mmmmm but O2 sensor was repositioned by Vin when my 'trick' dump was fitted and tuned? Hasn't thrown a CEL in the 3 years I have been driving it like that.

If it's a temporary code, it'll disappear (off the dash at least) after 5 starts.

Could be your airpump. They are known to die after about 50k.
Mine died 2 mths ago.
Just remove the related cel codes and you will be fine.

cruise control flashes when the engine light comes on . Took it to my mechanic and he put a device in under the steering wheel. Was a oxy sensor that has stuffed up it went off after the car idled for about 15 mins.Could be a range of things get someone to but the deice in an check it

Spot on, mine died on the Foz after 60k and i had the same symptoms. Engine Light and Cruise flashing. I disabled the codes and drove the car for another 30k with no probs. Subaru rectified the issue on all 07+ models.

Ive had cruise control flash + CEL and it turned out to be boost cut

mine has recently come on aswell... took it for a major service at URD, Tony had a look at it and got rid of it, and now has come back on. Taking it back to URD for another checkup.. hope its nothing too serious or "expensive" to fix.

This morning was driving up a hill with cruise control on and set, went to accelerate using the cruise (all in 5th gear) then lost all power & revs dropped, the Check Engine Light came on as well as Cruise Control started Flashing. Pulled over turned the car off and back on, the car is driving fine but engine light is still on and the cruise control light still flashing. I will take it to Subaru but.....Any thorts?? Could be anything, and impossible to know for sure without 'pulling' (checking) the code.
A mate with an MY08 RS had a similar problem the other day - rear O2 sensor had died.

Must be that time of the year.. Got in the car on Christmas day and car would not idle...Cranked it over, it spluttered and would not rev over 1000rpm, and spluttered till it stalled, Cranked it over again, same thing three or 4 times... let it sit for 5 mins, everything back to normal but with CEL on. Stayed on all that day but went off next day and everything seems fine.
Car is due for service and will take it to Subaru this week for 140,000 km service.. Will the cause of the CEL still be in the computer once the light has gone off?

Oh yeah, wifey tells me it did the same thing to her a fortnight ago... weird.

same happened to my MY06 right after a service six months ago. My car is all stock. Nothing went wrong except for those lights, started it a few times, let it idle and sit there for a few minutes, they went off by themselves. No odea what happened.

have a 99 model rx with cruise control, however when you push the cruise control button there is no indicator light on the dash to show its on ? ?? the cruise works fine but its annoying as you dont know if its on or off without feeling the switch ..

did the 99's come with a cruise indicator light in the dash ?? or do i just have a dud globe perhaps?? or was this overlooked when the car was designed??

I had my CEL and Cruise start flashing nearly 3 weeks ago.
Secondary air pump and valves code showed up.

Picked up my part yesterday and getting the fabulous Sharpie to pop it in for me on Thursday night.
Can't wait to get my cruise control back!!!!
