Hey guys, so my gc8 is doing something very strange... i put the key in and turn it to start and it does nothing... like its dead, there is plently of power in the battery, dash lights ups, fuel pump primes, it just doesnt crank... and then sometimes if i hold the key in the start position for a few seconds it will crank and start as normal... or i take the key out and try a few times it starts....
i thought maybe it was the alarm... had it checked, all is good... ive been told it may be the starter relay?... any ideas?..... and if so where is the starter relay so i can change it.
any ideas would be great, thanks guys
Cheers,
George

Didn't you just swap the ECU in this car.

I've had a similar problem but mine was dirty battery terminals not making contact properly.
Re: Strange Starting Issue GC8 WRX
starter motor? Bash it before putting the key in and see what happens
Re: Strange Starting Issue GC8 WRX
if your game you can unbolt the starter motor and have someone crank it while you watch and see if it turns.

Re: Strange Starting Issue GC8 WRX
Good point, I recently had a look at one of the misses friends cars. Car intermittently wouldn't start and had left her and her 2yr daughter stranded a few times.
Initially I thought it was her battery terminals are they were really loose, but after I nipped them up I noticed it wasn't making any clicking noise like not enough charge. Jacked the car up and got under.... surprise surprise loose wires on the starter motor.

Re: Strange Starting Issue GC8 WRX
Check the earth wire that runs from battery to started motor... Check all earth strap contact areas.. Check battery terminals are tight.. MY guess would be a loos earth...

Re: Strange Starting Issue GC8 WRX
The starter is located up top, so engine bay access is fine, it's passenger side on the back of the transmission to motor housing. Follow the main positive and ground from the battery and they go straight to it. Take off the intercooler for best access, but you can leave it on.
