Ej207 shortblock help

Postby Dono » Mon Sep 04, 2017 10:34 pm

Hi all I have a bugeye wrx and would appreciate some info from anyone that can help .. I am new to this so go easy on me with tech jargon..I'm just learning as I go but I am keen to learn .so my questions are I purchased the car around three years ago and enjoyed it a lot circumstances due to my fatal error of forgetting to tighten my lower radiator hose enough after replacing the timing belt and pulleys etc took it out for a run and obviously lost all of its fluids unbeknown to me when the temp gauge didn't show a thing until I smelt a burning smell of oil and pulled over and it shut down on its own . Since cooking the crap out of it I've been milling on what to do with it and have since Brought a new ej 207 block from Subaru and was planing to use my heads but as it goes they are roasted as well and cracked between the valves and spark plug threads my question is I have found a set of 05 wrx heads in good condition which are apparently big port heads they are avcs heads with solenoids that need wiring in to existing ecu I'm looking for bigger horse power gains now that I've started this progect would sti heads be a better choice parts list so far that I have purchased for this little bug resurrection
Ej 207 complete semi closed deck short block
Cast impeller water pump
New timing belt kit
Arp head stud kit
Tomei belt guide
Roger Clark multi layered head gaskets
Lightened flywheel
Competition clutch
Club spec t3 slotted rotors
Unequal length headers
Tbe
Up pipe
New lights
New 18 inch mags
Like I said guys I'm just learning and the guys at tuspeed have been awesome helping me out so far so what do you think would be the best scenario to finish this build bear in mind I live a small country town with limited places to get a tune after it's all done any advice would be appreciated .. and don't worry I'm not doing this build I've got in a local engine rebuilders shop.i feel like a dumb ass over seeing that last clamp on the old girl an expensive mistake to make but oh well I learnt my lesson hey ..

I'm not 100% sure on the 05 WRX having AVCS, I'd be inclined to think it is only single AVCS like the 02 STI has.

What I would be doing is trying to source some 01-02 WRX heads that DON'T have AVCS as a retrofit is a pretty costly and time consuming venture.

02 STI also has single AVCS in the inlet side, so unless you are wanting to swap harnesses and ECU's etc it isn't worth it.

Set of 01-02 WRX heads/manifold and you are good to go.
