Mercedes S500 Wetsand and Opti-Guard

Postby Immacreflections » Fri Oct 07, 2011 8:20 am

This is a client who contacted me through the Optimum Polymer Tech website as an approved Opti-Guard applicator.

The car came to me in pretty average shape for a car that sells second hand for $130k+.

He wanted the car in the best shape possible with out going full wheels off ect.

I ended up wetsanding probably 60% of the car by the end of it! and spent around 21-22 hours over a day and a half.

I also tested LC hydrotech pads and M105 and M205 of this detail as I had never used them before.

After wet sanding I hit the car with the Shinex using a purple wool pad and UF500. This was followed with a blue hydrotec with M105 moving onto a tangerine hydrotech with M105. I was suprised at how efficient the hydrotech broke down polish and how the M105 reacted with a hard clear definatly going onto a regular list.

By this stage the paint was up to par with what we were after for the job but needed some refining, this started with the Flev VRG and White constant pressure pad with M205 followed LimePrime on a black pad for a further refined finish.

The car was then given a wipe with CarPro Eraser twice, let me tell you this is a great product! Then it was coated in opti-guard to finish it off.

This car also had measurments ranging from 130-213microns! I had on average taken off around 8-12 of this by the end.

PS sorry about some of the pics I obviously had the shutter speed set to slow for some reason.

The interior wood trim was also polished, and cleaned with Bowdens Own Leather Love, conditioned 3 times with Zaino Z-10.

Glass was cleaned with Bowdens Own Naked Glass and Metal Polished with Bowdens Own Metal Polish.

Tyres were left un dressed to avoid contaminating the Opti-Guard as it cured.

Hope you guys enjoyed.

Mitch

I'm guessing the owner was pretty happy with the outcome. Looks spectacular. :)

Thanks guys appreciate it.

Actually I am having trouble with the owner now. He believes the car "was never professionally detailed" and looked worse when he picked it up then when he dropped it off :S.

I dont want to say to much except I will not being giving customers a 14 day invoice any more as it has ended up in withheld payment but it will get sorted.

Mitch

Sounds like he does not have the money to pay atm. Typical delay tactic !! He is probably the type of person who goes to an expensive resturants, eats a meal and then complains and refuses to pay !!

Most car service places I have been to have a policy, no pay no keys !!! Only way to fly.

I agree with most of the above comments :).

There is a mark on the rear bumper I was not feeling safe to completly remove due to low paint thickness readings taken otherwise it would compromise the clear coat. This was discussed prior also.

He had the car for a week and sent me a picture where there is some very minor marring......alot can happen in 7 days and after literraly 20minutes of looking over the car with his mother (he is 19) when he picked it up and no complaints makes me think it happened after even more so.

Still to keep the customeer happy I offered a heavily discounted price of nearly 40% off thats right 40%!!!!!!!!!!!! this offer was not taken so seems even more suspect. oh well I have some of the best legal representatives around including Phillip Dunn QC (search him) through my mum :) so if it goes that way I am in safe hands.

If only you had popped up on the forums before I got my last detail! Wasted a heap of money for what was 5hrs of rushed work... :thumbsdow:
